What is the difference between BC and Affiliate programs?
BC Program Tuition: BC tuition
Housing:ÌýUnless specifically noted, housing costs are paid to the host university/program, not BC
Additional Fees: International Health Insurance
Grades:ÌýCount towards BC GPA and appear on transcript
Credits:ÌýGeneral elective and with approval, can be applied to the student’s major, minor, or University core
Financial Aid: BC and federal aid (if eligible)
Boston College programs allow students to study directly at one of BC’s 70+ partner institutions around the world. On a BC Program, the OGE has a direct connection with the host university. Often, the host university abroad will send its students to BC as part of an exchange. Some BC programs have a Resident Director whose roles vary from location to location; programs with Resident Directors are labeled as “BC in.â€
Students who attend a BC program abroad continue to pay BC tuition. Students will be billed directly by their BC host institution for housing, unless otherwise noted. Students continue to receive all financial aid, grants, scholarships, tuition remission, etc. Students will also be required to pay for international health insurance offered through Zurich/ISOS. Many scholarship opportunities exist for students studying abroad and students are encouraged to apply early.
Students attending a BC program will earn BC credit, and the grades from abroad will be factored into their BC GPA. Credit will be applied to General Elective Credit. With approval, students may have the credit applied to their major, minor, or the BC core. Students should review the study abroad academic guidelines to learn more.

Students may also study in an Affiliate Program. Affiliate Programs are programs that offer additional opportunities abroad for BC students.
Students who choose an Affiliate program must apply to study abroad and be approved by the Office of Global Education (OGE) prior to applying to the Affiliate Program.
For Affiliate programs, Boston College students pay tuition directly to Boston College and fees to the program provider. Costs vary from program to program; please consult the specific program. Students are eligible for BC institutional financial aid, as well as state and federal aid for eligible students.
Credits from an Affiliate Program will transfer back to BC as general elective credit. With approval, credit can be applied to a student’s major, minor, or core. Grades will appear on the transcript and be factored into the student’s BC GPA.
Important: If Boston College has an existing partnership agreement with an international program or institution, BC students must participate through the official BC partnership only. Students cannot enroll directly with that institution or go through another ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´, university, or independent organization. Independent study outside of the OGE study abroad approval process is not permitted.

Do I have other options?
Petitions for Non-Approved Programs:ÌýWith so many options to choose from, students are expected first to consider a BC or Affiliate Program. If a student cannot find a program that meets their academic needs, they may petition to have a program not currently listed approved. Students must have a strong academic rationale for choosing a program that is not currently approved. Students are required to meet with the OGE advisor for their chosen region to discuss the case and obtain access to the petition application. Petitions are reviewed by the Director of the OGE, with input from the regional OGE Advisor. Petitions are approved on a case-by-case basis and must be submitted before the application deadline. If granted approval, the program is administered as an Affiliate Program.
What am I looking for in a program?
“ No one is judging you for your [language] mistakes, but will certainly congratulate you and encourage your achievements. Don’t be afraid or feel uncomfortable, and really do your best to engage in the language and culture wherever you are studying. ”
